General appearance rather triangular due to its strongly developed branchial tubercles; dorsal surface thickly covered with curly adherent hairs; hepatic region deeply sunken; seven strong tubercles, viz., one on median gastric region, one on cardiac region, one at posterior border of intestinal region, two on each brachial region in line with the cardiac one; of them outer one of two branchial tubercles especially long and directed laterally. Rostrum weakly deflexed, about a quater as long as carapace proper, being widely divergent at its median part. Supraorbital spine suberect, and external orbital spine small, but sharp and directed outward. Antennal flagellum completely excluded from orbit by wide antennal basal segment which is armed with two spinules distally. Female chelipeds slender as usual. Ambulatory legs not stout, upper anterior border of merus being armed with a distal tubercle.
Distribution:
Previously known from South Carolina to the Gulf of Mexico, and also recorded at Bahia, Brazil, 40-200 m deep.
