Carapace pyriform and covered with a close pubescence; dorsal surface provided with nine tubercles, of which one each on metagastric and cardiac regions and two on branchial regions are large, variable in shape and most typically truncated or blunt at their tops; one spine on hepatic margin and also one at posterolateral angle of branchial region; a blunt tubercle at posterior border of carapace. Preorbital edge produced to be a tubercle directed obliquely upward and outward. Rostral horns moderately divergent, varying its length with age. Chelipeds slender, with some tubercles at proximal upper part of each merus and with a distal spine. Ambulatory legs long and cylindrical; a tubercle at distal extremity of each merus.

Previously known from North Carolina through northeast of the Gulf of Mexico to St. Vincent in the West Indies, 155-885 m deep.
