Specimens examined：3 (SL 76.5～90.2 mm).
Counts：D ⅩⅡ～ⅩⅢ, 20～21; A Ⅱ, 8～9; GR 11～12+20～21=31～33.
特 徴：
（属）：下顎にひげがない。下顎は上顎より突出しない。前鰓蓋骨に棘がある。鰾は前後2気室に分かれており，前室の側部に1対の小さな付属のうがある。（種）：前鰓蓋骨に4～6本の棘がある。下顎下面に4個（2対）の感覚孔がある。吻端は上顎より突出しない。上顎の前端の位置は眼の下縁よりも高い。上顎の後端は眼の後縁下に達する。眼径は頭長の15.0～17.0％。両眼間隔は頭長の31.3～34.4％。頭部は円鱗を被るが，体側部は胸部も含めて櫛鱗。胸鰭の先端は肛門を越え，腹鰭の先端は肛門に達する。下顎の縫合部付近の口腔弁は黒い。
分 布：
スリナム沖。
備 考：
本属魚類は西部大西洋に種類が多く，以上のような分類形状の他に鰾前室の付属嚢の形状や鰓耙数が重視されている。

Distinctive characters：
(Genus)：Lower jaw without barbel. Tip of lower jaw not projectiong beyond upper jaw. Preopercular margin with spines. Swimbladder consisting of two chambers, anterior chamber with a pair of appendages. (Species)：Preopercular margin with 4～6 spines. Lower jaw with 4 (2 pairs) sensory pores. Tip of snout not projecting beyond upper jaw. Position of tip of upper jaw higher than ventral margin of eye. Posterior margin of upper jaw reaching to posterior margin of eye. Eye diameter 15.0～17.0％ of SL. Interorbital width 31.3～34.4％ of HL. Head covered with cycloid scales, side of body including breast covered with ctenoid scales. Tip of pectoral fin extending beyond anus, tip of pelvic fin reaching to anus. Oral valve near symphisis of lower jaw darkly pigmented.
Distribution：
Off Suriname.
Remarks：
There are many species of this genus in western Atlantic. For identification, shape of appendages of swimbladder and number of gill rakers are also significant.
