(Family):Dorsal fin with a deep notch or completely divided in two. Caudal fin not furcated. Anal fin with 1〜2 spines. Head mostly covered with scales. Lateral line extending to hind margin of caudal fin. Lower jaw with a single or more barbels in some species. (Genus):Lower jaw with 3 pairs of barbels in a tuft at apex and more than 10 pairs of barbels along inner edge. (Species):Pectoral fin long, its tip extending beyond origin of anal fin base. Side of body without dark oblique band.
Distribution:
From Suriname to Brazil.
Remarks:
Another species of this genus in western Atlantic, P. brasiriensis, has short pectoral fin, its tip not reaching to anus, and dark oblique bands on side.
