(Family): Urogenital opening immediately behind anus. Usually two dorsal fins. Scales usually armed with spinules. (Genus): Anus situated midway between pelvic bases and origin of anal fin or slightly anterior. A black dermal window of light organ between pelvic bases. Second spinous ray of 1st dorsal fin serrated. Gill rakers on 1st arch less than 12. No dark band along anterolateral margin of snout. (Species): No enlarged scutes at snout tip. Suborbital ridge not developed. Underside of snout narrowly naked along upper lip; 1〜2 scales present on branchiostegal membrane. Pelvic fin rays 11. Ventral light organ very large.
Distribution:
Pacific (Hawaii) and middle western Atlantic.
Remarks:
The species is distinguishable from other Atlantic Nezumia species in lacking enlarged snout scute and having a narrow naked area above the upper lip. (Arai)
