(Family): Urogenital opening immediately behind anus. Usually two dorsal fins. Caudal fin absent. Scales usually armed with spinules. (Genus): Interdorsal space narrow. Second dorsal fin much higher than anal. Anus situated near origin of anal fin; no blackish dermal window of ventral light organ before anus. Chin barbel usually present. Scales deciduous, not armed with spinules. Gill rakers long, slender. (Species): Barbel long, about 66〜87% HL. Outer two rays of pelvic fin elongate; no filamentous ray on dorsal and pectoral fins. Gill rakers on lower limb of 1st arch 19〜21. Pectoral fin rays 22〜25. Pelvic fin rays 8.
Distribution:
Middle western and eastern Atlantic.
Remarks:
Five species of this genus are known from the Atlantic, the present species is distinguished from others by having the elongated outer two rays of pelvic fin. (Arai)
