近縁種のC. ventriluxでは,吻下面正中部と両背鰭間に黒色線がある(Marshall and Iwamoto, 1973)。 (荒井)
Distinctive characters:
(Family): Urogenital opening immediately behind anus. Usually two dorsal fins. Caudal fin absent. Scales usually armed with spinules. (Genus): Spinous ray of 1st dorsal fin smooth. Anus usually situated in front of anal fin. Head ridges of modified scales developed. Pelvic fin rays 7. (Species): Snout with sharply pointed spine at its tip. Dorsal aspect of snout transparent with relatively broad naked areas in each side. Underside of snout mostly covered with scales. Scales on body deciduous; spinules arranged in quincunx order. A large diamond-shaped blackish dermal window of ventral light organ present before pelvic bases (Fig.). No blackish stripe between dorsals.
Distribution:
Middle western Atlantic.
Remarks:
In a related species C. ventrilux, blackish stripe present on midline of underside of snout and between dorsals (Marshall and Iwamoto, 1973). (Arai)
