本属は大西洋から5種知られるが,本種は背鰭,胸鰭,腹鰭の各1条が糸状に延長することで他種と区別できる(Iwamoto, 1970; Marshall and Iwamoto, 1973)。 (荒井)
Distinctive characters:
(Family): Urogenital opening immediately behind anus. Usually two dorsal fins. Caudal fin absent. Scales usually armed with spinules. (Genus): Interdorsal space narrow. Second dorsal fin much higher than anal. Anus situated near origin of anal fin; no blackish dermal window of ventral light organ before anus. Chin barbel usually present. Scales deciduous, not armed with spinules. Gill rakers long, slender. (Species): Barbel long, 36.2〜46.4% of HL. Single ray of 1st dorsal, pectoral, and pelvic fins much elongate. Gill rakers on lower limb of 1st arch 27〜30. Pectoral fin rays 14〜17. Pelvic fin rays 8.
Distribution:
Middle western Atlantic and west coast of Africa.
Remarks:
Five species of this genus are known from the Atlantic, the present species is distinguishable from others by having the elongate ray of 1st dorsal and pelvic fins (Iwamoto, 1970; Marshall and Iwamoto, 1973). (Arai)
