Specimens examined：11 (HL 79～131 mm, TL 250+～442 mm).
Counts：BR 6; D (1st) Ⅱ, 7～8; P1 ?, 16～19; P2 7; GR (inner row on 1st arch) 2+6～7.
特 徴：
（科）： 泌尿生殖口は肛門直後にある。背鰭は通常2基。尾鰭はない。鱗は通常微小棘を被る。（属）： 第1背鰭第2棘前縁は円滑。肛門は通常臀鰭起部直前に開く。頭部には変形鱗からなる隆起縁が発達する。腹鰭条数は7。（種）： 吻は長く鋭く尖り，先端に扁平した矢尻形の強い1棘がある。頭部下面は完全に無鱗。頭部隆起縁は鋭く強い。眼下隆起縁は眼窩中央下に間隙があり，それより前方では鱗列が1列，後方では2列。体側鱗上の小棘列はほぼ平行に並び中央列は著しく肥大する。
分 布：
北大西洋。
備 考：
南大西洋産の近縁種C. acanthigerでは吻下面は鱗を被る。 （荒井）
Distinctive characters：
(Family)： Urogenital opening immediately behind anus. Usually two dorsal fins. Caudal fin absent. Scales usually armed with spinules. (Genus)： Spinous ray of 1st dorsal fin smooth. Anus usually situated in front of anal fin. Head ridges of modified scales developed. Pelvic fin rays 7. (Species)： Snout long, sharply pointed; a strong, arrow-head shaped spine present on its tip. Underside of head completely naked. Head ridges very strong; suborbital ridge with a gap below middle orbit, portion anterior to gap with a single scale row and posterior portion in two rows. Spinules on body scales arranged in subparallel rows with distinct enlarged median keel.
Distribution：
North Atlantic.
Remarks：
In C. acanthiger (South Atlantic species), underside of snout is covered with scales. (Arai)
