Body greatly deep and strongly compressed, body depth 1.4〜1.5 in SL. Dorsal profile of snout very steep and slightly concave. Lower jaw projecting beyond upper jaw. Straight part of lateral line with weak scutes. Pectoral fin falcate, longer than head. Pelvic fin small. Anterior soft dorsal and anal fin rays elongated. Body covered with very small cycloid scales. Caudal peduncle without keels. Caudal fin forked. Body silver-white; dorsal and caudal fins dusky, other fins white.
Distribution:
From Maine to Uruguay.
Remarks:
This species is similar to Selene spixii but differs from it by having the elongated anterior lobes of the dorsal and anal fins and no keels on the caudal peduncle. (Matsuura)
