Body elongate and nearly rounded, body depth 4.4〜5.2 in SL. Posterior edge of upper jaw reaching to below anterior margin of eye. Eye moderately large with a well developed eyelid. Teeth on both jaws small and arranged in a single row. Straight part of lateral line with 38 scutes, scales on curved portion of lateral line slightly enlarged but not scute-like. Pectoral fin falcate, shorter than head. Body covered with small cycloid scales. Terminal dorsal and anal fin rays each forming a widely detached finlet. Caudal fin forked. Body dark greenish blue dorsally, silver-white ventrally; many small black spots on curved part of lateral line; a small black blotch on upper posteior margin of opercle; tip of dorsal fin dusky, other parts pale; caudal fin pale yellow, other fins pale.
Distribution:
Masachusetts, Bermuda to Brazil.
Remarks:
This species is easily separable from other fishes of Decapterus by having many black spots on the curved part of the lateral line. (Matsuura)
