Body deep and strongly compressed, body depth 1.3 in SL; body depth proportionally decreasing with growth of fish. Straight part of lateral line with strong scutes. Pectoral fin falcate, longer than head. In young anterior soft rays of dorsal and anal fins extremely elongated into filaments. Caudal fin forked. Body silver-white with a tinge of metalic blue; a black blotch on posterior edge of opercle; three vertical dark bars on posterior part of body; anterior soft rays of dorsal and anal fins black; pelvic fin black; pectoral fin pale and caudal fin dusky.

Tropical regions of the world.
Remarks:
This species is distinguishable from other carangids by the following characters:the straight part of the lateral line with strong scutes, the pectoral fin longer than the head, the pelvic fin longer than the upper jaw, and scales very small. (Matsuura)
