Body elongate and compressed, body depth 3.6 in SL. Posterior end of upper jaw extending beyond posterior margin of eye. Pectoral fin falcate, longer than head. Straight part of lateral line with 29 scutes. Dorsal spines shorter than the longest soft dorsal fin ray. Body covered with small cycloid scales. Chest scaleless except for a patch of scales just anterior to pelvic base. Anal spines distinct and movable. Caudal fin forked, upper and lower lobes about equal in length. Body blue dorsally, silver-white ventrally; a small black spot on posterior margin of opercle; pectoral fin dusky yellow with an oval black blotch; dorsal and anal fins dusky yellow; caudal fin dusky.
Distribution:
From Nova Scotia to Uruguay.
Remarks:
This species is distinguishable from other carangids by having an oval black blotch on the pectoral fin and a patch of scales just anterior to the pelvic base. (Matsuura)
