Body elongate and slightly compressed, body depth 3.7 in SL. Posterior edge of upper jaw reaching to below anterior margin of eye. Eye large with a well developed adipose eyelid. Teeth on both jaws small and arranged in a single row. Straight part of lateral line with 34 scutes, curved part of lateral line covered with enlarged scute-like scales. A shallow furrow on upper margin of shoulder girdle, but no deep furrow and no papilla on lower margin. Pectoral fin falcate, slightly shorter than head. Body except for a small part behind pectoral fin covered with small cycloid scales. Caudal fin forked. Body dark blue dorsally, silver-white ventrally; a black blotch on posterior margin of opercle; tip of snout dusky; anterior margin and tip of first dorsal fin dusky, other parts pale; second dorsal fin pale; caudal fin dusky, pectoral and pelvic fins pale.

From Maine to Argentina.
Remarks:
This genus is similar to Decapterus andSelar but is separable from the former by lacking of finlets and from the latter by no furrow and papilla on the lower part of the shoulder girdle. (Matsuura)
