特 徴：
体は延長し，体の横断面は楕円形。体長は体高の5.4倍。上顎の後端は眼の前縁下に達する。眼は大きく，脂瞼は発達し厚い。両顎の歯は小さく，1列に並ぶ。側線直走部には37枚の楯状鱗があり，側線曲走部の鱗はやや大きいが楯状鱗状にならない。胸鰭は鎌形で頭長より短い。尾柄部の背腹両面に1小離鰭がある。体は小さな円鱗を被る。尾鰭は2叉する。体の背方は暗青色で腹方は銀白色。主鰓蓋骨の上後縁に1小黒色斑がある。尾鰭は灰色で他の鰭は淡色。
分 布：
ノース・カロライナ，バーミューダ島からスリナム沖まで。東部大西洋のセントヘレナ島にも分布する。
備 考：
本種は同属のD. macarellusとD. punctatusに似るが，前者では直走部楯状鱗数が23～32枚と少なく，後者では側線前部に小黒点があるので区別できる。 （松浦）
Distinctive characters：
Body elongate and rounded, body depth 5.4 in SL. Posterior edge of upper jaw reaching to below anterior margin of eye. Eye large with a well developed adipose eyelid. Teeth of both jaws small and arranged in single row. Straight part of lateral line with 37 scutes, curved part of lateral line covered with slightly enlarged scales. Pectoral fin falcate, shorter than head. Terminal dorsal and anal fin rays each forming a widely detached finlet. Body covered with small cycloid scales. Caudal fin forked. Body dark blue dorsally, silver-white ventrally; a small black blotch on upper posterior margin; caudal fin dusky, other fins pale.
Distribution：
North Carolina and Bermuda to Suriname. Found also in St. Helena in the eastern Atlantic.
Remarks：
This species is similar to D. macarellus and D. punctatus but differs from the former by the number of scutes(37 ageinst 23～32) and differs from the latter by no small black spots on the curved part of the lateral line. (Matsuura)
