特 徴：
（属）：背鰭基底と臀鰭基底はほぼ同長。小鱗が一列に並んだような構造をした尾柄部発光腺（SUGLとINGL）がある。尾柄下部発光腺は尾柄の腹面全体を占める。5個からなる胸部発光器は第1〜第4が一水平線上に並び，第5のみ高位。背鰭の前方と後方および臀鰭基底部に発光組織がある。尾鰭前発光器は4個。5個からなる腹部発光器は第2，第3，第5が高位で，波状形をなす。眼径は頭長の1/4以上。（種）：腹鰭起部と肛門の間に発光組織がある。眼上骨に前方を向く小棘がない。眼上部に発光組織がない。
分 布：
大西洋，太平洋，インド洋の温帯〜熱帯水域。模式産地-中部北大西洋。
備 考：
本属は3種を含み，その内で大西洋熱帯水域から知られるのはゴコウハダカだけである。（藤井）
Distinctive characters：
(Genus)：Base of dorsal fin about equal to that of anal. Caudal luminous glands (SUGL and INGL) consisting of small, overlapping scalelike structures. INGL extending along entire ventral aspect of caudal peduncle. Five PO, PO1〜4 level; PO5 elevated. Luminous tissue before and behind dorsal fin, and along base of anal fin. Four Prc. Five VO in a wavy line; VO2, VO3 and VO5 raised. Eye large, less than 4 in head. (Species)：Luminous tissue between origin of pelvic fins and anus. Supraorbital spine absent. No luminous tissue above eye.
Distribution：
Temperate to tropical waters of Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans. Type locality-central North Atalntic.
Remarks：
The genus includes 3 species. Among them, only C. warmingii is known from the tropical Atlantic. (Fujii)
