(Genus):Base of dorsal fin about equal to that of anal. Caudal luminous glands (SUGL and INGL) consisting of small, overlapping scalelike structures. INGL extending along entire ventral aspect of caudal peduncle. Five PO, PO1〜4 level; PO5 elevated. Luminous tissue before and behind dorsal fin, and along base of anal fin. Four Prc. Five VO in a wavy line; VO2, VO3 and VO5 raised. Eye large, less than 4 in head. (Species):Luminous tissue between origin of pelvic fins and anus. Supraorbital spine absent. No luminous tissue above eye.
Distribution:
Temperate to tropical waters of Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans. Type locality-central North Atalntic.
Remarks:
The genus includes 3 species. Among them, only C. warmingii is known from the tropical Atlantic. (Fujii)
