特 徴：
（属）：眼は大きく，大きな三日月形の白色組織が虹彩の後半部にある。臀鰭基底に斑点状の発光組織がある。尾鰭前発光器は3個。胸鰭上発光器，第3肛門上発光器，第2体側後部発光器，第3尾鰭前発光器は側線の直上にあるか，側線に接している。胸鰭は長く，後端は臀鰭起部を越える。腹部発光器は5個で，第2が高位。第4胸部発光器は著しく高位。尾柄部発光腺（SUGLとINGL）がある。馬蹄形状の側線器官はない。（種）：腹鰭上発光器は側線よりはるかに下位。鼻部腹側発光器は眼窩の前縁にあり，その大きさは体側の発光器よりわずかに小さい。体側後部発光器は2個。
分 布：
大西洋，太平洋，インド洋の熱帯〜亜熱帯水域。模式産地-西部北大西洋。
備 考：
本属は6種を含み，大西洋熱帯水域からは3〜4種が知られる。虹彩にある三日月形の白色組織からミカヅキハダカと名づけた。（藤井）
Distinctive characters：
(Genus)：Eyes large with a large cresent of whitish tissue on posterior half of iris. Patches of luminous tissue at base of anal fin. Three Prc. PLO, SAO3, Pol2, and Prc3 just above or close to lateral line. Pectoral fin long, extending beyond origin of anal fin. Five VO, the 2nd elevated. PO4 highly elevated. Caudal luminous gland (SUGL and INGL) present. Horseshoe-like lateral line organ absent. (Species)：VLO well below lateral line. Vn at anterior aspect of orbit, its size slightly smaller than body photophore. Two Pol.
Distribution：
Tropical to subtropical waters of three major oceans. Type locality-western North Atlantic.
Remarks：
The genus includes 6 species, 3 or 4 of which are known from the tropical Atlantic. (Fujii)
