Specimens examined：6 (SL 89.8〜142.5 mm). Depth：706〜820 m.
Counts：D 14〜15; A 13〜15; P1 15〜17; GR 4+1+7〜9=12〜14; SLL 37〜38. PO 5; VO 5; AO 6+2; Pol 1; Prc 2+1.
特 徴：
（属）：尾柄の背面と腹面には黒色素で縁取られた大きな半透明の1発光腺がある（図）。光彩の後半部に大きな半月形の白色組織がない。発光器と側線は明瞭。（種）：第4胸部発光器は著しく高位，第3胸部発光器のほぼ直上にある。尾柄上部発光腺と尾柄下部発光腺はほぼ同長。鰓耙数は4+1+7〜9，合計12〜14*。臀鰭発光器は5〜7+2個，合計7〜9個*。
分 布：
大西洋，太平洋，インド洋の温帯〜熱帯水域。模式産地-東部太平洋熱帯域。
備 考：
本属は8種を含み，大西洋熱帯水域からはカガミイワシのみ知られる。*印はHulley (1981) とNafpaktitis et al. (1977) より引用。（藤井）
Distinctive characters：
(Genus)：Supracaudal and infracaudal luminous glands large, single, borderd by heavy black pigment (Fig.). No large crescent of whitish tissue on posterior half of iris. Origin of dorsal fin somewhat in front of base of pelvic fin. Photophores and lateral line well developed. (Species)：PO4 abruptly and highly elevated, about over PO3. Length of SCG about equal to that of ICG. Gill rakers 4+1+7+10, total 12〜15*. AO photophores 5〜7+2, total 7〜9*.
Distribution：
Temperate to tropical waters of Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic oceans. Type locality-eastern Pacific.
Remarks：
The genus includes 8 species. Only L. luminosa is known from the tropical Atlantic. * Reference data from Hulley (1981) and Natpaktitis et al. (1977). (Fujii)
