特 徴：
（属）：背鰭基底は臀鰭基底とほぼ同長。尾鰭前発光器は4個。尾柄部発光腺はない。第1〜2胸鰭下発光器と第1胸部発光器は一直線をなす。第4胸部発光器は著しく高位。第2〜3腹部発光器は漸進的に高位となる。胸鰭上発光器に発光鱗がある。（種）：鼻部腹側発光器は鼻部背側発光器まで伸びるが，嗅覚器官の後側へは広がらない。鼻部背側発光器は嗅房より大きい。眼前上部発光器はよく発達する。眼下発光器はない。両顎（特に下顎）には肥大歯がある。胸鰭上発光器は胸鰭基底より側線に近い。第3肛門上発光器と体側後部発光器は側線の直下にある。鰓耙数は5〜6+1+11〜12，合計17〜19*。背鰭は17〜19軟条*。臀鰭は16〜18軟条*。
分 布：
三大洋の熱帯水域。模式産地-12°11′N，35°49′W。

Distinctive characters：
(Genus)：Base of dorsal fin about equal to that of anal. Four Prc. Caudal luminous gland absent. PVO in line with PO1. Five PO, PO4 highly elevated. Five VO, VO2〜3 progressively elevated. A luminous scale at PLO. (Species)：Vn reaching Dn, but not spreading behind nasal apparatus. Dn larger than nasal rosette in size. Ant well developed. So absent. Both jaws (especially lower jaw) with enlarged teeth. PLO nearer to lateral line than to base of pectoral fin. SAO3 and Pol immediately below lateral line. Gill rakers 5〜6+1+11〜12, total 17〜19*. Dorsal fin rays 17〜19*. Anal fin rays 16〜18*.
Distribution：
Tropical waters of three major oceans. Type locality-12°11′N, 35°49′W.
