特 徴：
（属）：背鰭基底は臀鰭基底とほぼ同長。尾鰭前発光器は4個。尾柄部発光腺はない。第1〜2胸鰭下発光器と第1胸部発光器は一直線をなす。第4胸部発光器は著しく高位。第2〜3腹部発光器は漸進的に高位となる。胸鰭上発光器に発光鱗がある。（種）：鼻部背側発光器は側方を向いており，その大きさは雌では小さく，成熟した雄では大きい（図）。鼻部腹側発光器は丸く微小で，鼻部背側発光器と完全に分離している。他の囲眼部発光器はない。両顎には肥大歯がある。胸鰭上発光器は側線より発光器1〜2個分下方にある。前部臀鰭発光器は第1から最終まで水平に並ぶ。第3肛門上発光器と体側後部発光器は側線に接する。鰓耙数は5〜9+1+13〜18，合計19〜27*。臀鰭発光器は6〜8+4〜7，合計10〜14個*。
分 布：
太平洋の熱帯水域と大西洋の温帯〜熱帯水域。模式産地-セレベス。
備 考：
本属は約60種を含む。本種の和名は模式産地名に由来する。*印はHulley (1981) とNafpaktitis et al. (1977) より引用。（藤井）
Distinctive characters：
(Genus)：Base of dorsal fin about equal to that of anal. Four Prc. Caudal luminous gland absent. PVO in line with PO1. Five PO, PO4 highly elevated. Five VO, VO2〜3 progressively elevated. A luminous scale at PLO. (Species)：Dn directed laterally; its size small in females and large in mature males (Fig.). A minute, round Vn completely separated from Dn. Ant and So absent. PLO very high, 1〜2 times its own diameter below lateral line. SAO3 and Pol in contact with lateral line. The 1st to last AOa level. GR 5〜9+1+13〜18, total 19〜27. AO 6〜8+4〜7, total 10〜14.
Distribution：
Tropical Pacific, and temperate to tropical waters of Atlantic Ocean. Type locality-Celebes.
Remarks：
