Distinctive characters:
(Genus):Base of dorsal fin about equal to that of anal. Four Prc. Caudal luminous gland absent. PVO in line with PO1. Five PO, PO4 higly elevated. Five VO; VO2〜3 progressively elevated. A luminous scale at PLO. (Species):Dn small. Vn larger than Dn, extending dorsally to Dn (Fig.). So and Ant absent. AOa1 highly elevated, sometimes directly above AOa2. SAO3 and Pol in contact with lateral line. PLO nearer to lateral line than to base of pectoral fin. Luminous scale at PLO large. VLO about midway between lateral line and base of pelvic fin. Gill rakers 6〜8+1+12〜15, total 20〜23*.
Distribution:
Tropical waters of three major oceans. Type locality-off Cuba.
