Head large with many spines; infraorbital stay developed; caudal fin not forked. Lateral line forms continuous trough covered with thin membraneous of scales; cranial bones thin with well developed sensory canals; 3rd and 4th infraorbital bones absent; anal fin with 3 spines and rays; pectoral fin with 21〜24 rays; orbit diameter almost equal to interorbital width; 2nd preopercular spine is long and well developed.
Distribution:
This species is the most widely distributed species in the family Scorpaenidae in Atlantic and Pacific. In western Atlantic, this is distributed from 40°N to northern Brazil. (Uyeno and Sato)
