(Family):Head large with many spines; infraorbital stay developed; caudal fin not forked. (Genus):Dorsal spines 12; dorsal soft rays less than 10; lateral line scales with tube and pore; cranium robust with supraocular and postocular spine; body covered with cycloid scales; lateral line complete reaching caudal fin base. (Species):Occipital pit present; 3〜4 spines present in adult on a part of preorbital overlapping maxillary; supplemental preopercular spine present; no dark spots at inner basal part of pectoral fin; body coloration pale in general, with some dark pigments.
Distribution:
Western Atlantic, from Georgia, Gulf of Mexico to Brazil. (Uyeno and Sato)
