(Family):Head large with many spines; infraorbital stay well developed; caudal fin not forked. (Genus):Lateral line forms continuous trough covered with thin membrane of scales; cranial bones thin with well developed sensory canals; 3rd and 4th infraorbital absent; anal fin with 3 spines and 6 rays in adult (2 spines in young); body high being 37〜52 percent of standard length. (Species):Monotypic; body color black.

Atlantic and Pacific; in western Atlantic, from Gulf of Mexico to Suriname. (Uyeno and Sato)
