(Family):Head large with many spines; infraorbital stay developed; caudal fin not forked. (Genus):Dorsal spines 12; dorsal soft rays less than 10; lateral line scales with tube and pore; cranium robust with supraocular and postocular spine; body covered with cycloid scales; lateral line complete reaching caudal fin base. (Species):No occipial pit; 2 spines present on a part of preorbital overlapping maxillary (Fig.); no supplemental preopercular spine; small mushroom-like tabs on upper part of cornea present (Fig.).
Distribution:
Western Atlantic, from Florida to Suriname. (Uyeno and Sato)
