L. nolf(中部東大西洋),L. bartschi(インド・大平洋)及び本種は互いに酷似しており,現在のところそれらの分布と大型個体の耳石の形態によって区別するしかないようである(Cohen, 1964b; 1981)。 (荒井)
Distinctive characters:
(Family):Gill opening well developed. Caudal joints to dorsal and anal fins. Anterior nostril well above upper lip. Supramaxillary present. (Genus):Snout depressed; many fleshy ridges present on snout tip. Pelvic fin with two rays, inserted below preopercle. Orbit large; eye nomally developed. Head about equal to half of preanal length. Developed gill rakers on 1st arch 3. Basibranchial tooth patch one. Opercle with one spine. (Species):Lateral line extend to about above origin of anal fin. Fins darker than body. Remarks:
The species resembles L. nolf (eastern tropical Atlantic) and L. bartschi (Indo-Pacific) each other. The present time, the useful character to be distinguished may be their distributions and shape of otoliths (Cohen, 1964b; 1981). (Arai)
