(Family):Gill opening wide. Dorsal, anal, and caudal fins continuous. Anterior nostril well above upper lip. Supramaxillary present. (Genus):Lateral line scales very large. Pectoral fin absent in adults. Scales arranged in regular rows. Head bone weekly ossified. (Species):Basibranchial tooth patch present. Opercular spines similar to those of L. niger. Posterior margin of preopecle with about 9 short flexible flat spines, lower 2 or 3 spines enlarged (Fig.). Body scales relatively small, scales below lateral line about 38. Developed gill rakers 13〜14.

Remarks:
The species is distinguishable from L. niger, L. fragils, and L. illustris by having many small spines on the posterior margin of preopercle. (Arai)
