(Family):Gill opening wide. Dorsal, anal, and caudal fins continuous. Anterior nostril well above upper lip. Supramaxillary present. (Genus):A strong spine on snout directed anteriorly. Pelvic fin inserted below orbit. Barbel absent. Scales arrenged in regular rows. Basibranchial tooth patch absent. (Species):Body dark gray or brownish gray without bloches. Dorsal and anal fins dark, becomming gradually darker at the extreme blackish edge; pelvic fin blackish in anterior half and pale in posterior half. Gill arch blackish or brownish. Head covered with scales except for snout, lips, and branchiostegal membrane. Pelvic fin length 22〜26% of HL.
Distribution:
Tropical western North Atlantic.
Remarks:
The species is distinguishable from L. aporrhox by the number of gill rakers on upper limb (4 cf. 2 in L. aporrhox)(Robins, 1958). (Arai)
