Body greatly elongate and strongly compressed, body depth 3.2〜3.4 in SL. Mouth very large, posterior end of upper jaw reaching beyond posterior edge of eye. Upper jaw length 1.1〜1.2 in head length. Eyes on left side of body; inter-orbital space narrower than eye diameter. Teeth in both jaws in a single row, the lower jaw teeth depressible. Origin of dorsal fin anterior to eye. Base of pelvic fin of ocular side longer than that of blind side and the first ray inserted notably anterior to fin of blind side. Caudal fin convex. Lateral line with a flattopped curve above pectoral fin. All scales cycloid. Body pale yellowish brown, fins dark brown.
Distribution:
Warm and tropical regions of the world; inhabiting deep water.
Remarks:
This species is separable from other Atlantic bothids by the following points:the body greatly elongate, the base of the pelvic fin of ocular side longer than that of blind side, and the mouth very large. (Matsuura)
