Body elliptical and strongly compressed, body depth 2.1〜2.2 in SL. Mouth large, posterior end of upper jaw reaching to below posterior margin of eye. Teeth in both jaws canine-like and arranged in a single row. Eyes on left side of body; interorbital space narrower than eye diameter. Origin of dorsal fin slightly anterior to eye. Base of pelvic fin of ocular side about equal to that of blind side and not inserted anterior to fin of blind side. Pelvic fins about equal to each other in size. Caudal fin convex. Lateral line strongly arched above pectoral fin. Scales on body ctenoid. Body and fins brown with many dark brown spots.
Distribution:
From southern Caribbean to Suriname.
Remarks:
This species is separable from other Atlantic bothids by having no ocellated spots on the body and the smaller number of anal fin rays. (Matsuura)
