Body elongate and compressed. Body depth 2.8 in SL. Posterior edge of upper jaw reaching to below anterior margin of eye. Two pores and a median groove on chin. Preopercle coarsely serrated. Scaly sheaths at bases of soft portions of dorsal and anal fins. A row of small scales on membranes between rays of dorsal and anal fins. Scales below lateral line arranged parallel to body axis. Caudal fin emarginate. Body silver-white, slightly yellowish orange on dorsal part; a dark line along each row of scales below lateral line; caudal fin dusky, other fins silver-white; edges of dorsal and anal fins dusky.
Distribution:
Caribbean Sea to Brazil.
Remarks:
This species is similar to P. crocro but differs from it in the following:the postero-ventral corner of preopercle without enlarged serration and fewer number of lateral-line scales (50〜51 instead of 53〜55).
