特 徴：
体は卵形で側扁する。体長は体高の2.2～2.3倍。上顎の後端は眼の前縁よりも後方に達する。下顎の下面に1対の小孔はあるが，1縦溝はない。前鰓蓋骨の縁辺部は鋸歯状。鱗は小さく，側線とは並行にならばない。背鰭と臀鰭の軟条部の基部は鱗を被る。体はやや黄色味をおびた銀灰色で，腹方は銀白色。背鰭棘は銀色で，鰭膜は暗褐色。軟条背鰭，胸鰭，腹鰭は黄色。腹鰭の後縁は暗褐色。臀鰭は暗褐色。尾鰭は基部が黄色で後方は暗褐色。
分 布：
小アンチル諸島からブラジルまでの浅海。汽水域にも入る。
備 考：
本種は他のイサキ科魚類から下顎下面に1対の小孔をもつが縦溝がないこと，臀鰭軟条数が11本であることなどで区別できる。

Distinctive characters：
Body ovate and compressed. Body depth 2.2～2.3 in SL. Posterior edge of upper jaw reaching to below anterior half of eye. Two pores and no median groove on chin. Preopercle serrated. Scales small, not parallel with lateral line, arranged obliquely above and horizontally below. Basal parts of soft dorsal and anal fins covered with scales. Body silver with a tinge of yellow, silver-white below; spines of first dorsal fin silver, membranes dark brown; soft dorsal, and pectoral fins yellow; pelvic fin yellow with dark brown posterior edge; anal fin dark brown; caudal fin yellow basally and dark brown posteriorly.
Distribution：
Lesser Antilles to Brazil, inhabiting coastal waters and frequently found in brackish waters.
Remarks：
This species is separable from other haemulids by the following points：two pores, but no median groove on the chin and 11 anal fin rays.
