Body ovate and compressed. Body depth 2.2〜2.3 in SL. Posterior edge of upper jaw reaching to below anterior half of eye. Two pores and no median groove on chin. Preopercle serrated. Scales small, not parallel with lateral line, arranged obliquely above and horizontally below. Basal parts of soft dorsal and anal fins covered with scales. Body silver with a tinge of yellow, silver-white below; spines of first dorsal fin silver, membranes dark brown; soft dorsal, and pectoral fins yellow; pelvic fin yellow with dark brown posterior edge; anal fin dark brown; caudal fin yellow basally and dark brown posteriorly.
Distribution:
Lesser Antilles to Brazil, inhabiting coastal waters and frequently found in brackish waters.
Remarks:
This species is separable from other haemulids by the following points:two pores, but no median groove on the chin and 11 anal fin rays.
