特 徴：
体は長く，側扁する。体長は体高の2.5倍。上顎の後端は眼の前縁下に達する。下顎の下面に1対の小孔と1縦溝がある。前鰓蓋骨の縁辺は細かな鋸歯状を呈する。背鰭と臀鰭の軟条部は基部から縁辺まで鱗を被る。側線より上方の鱗は下方の鱗より大きい。側線より下方の鱗は体軸に対して斜めにならぶ。尾鰭は2叉する。体色は銀白色で各鱗の縁辺は黄褐色。頭部は黄褐色で不規則な青色線が多数走る。棘条背鰭，胸鰭，腹鰭は淡黄色。軟条背鰭と臀鰭は黄色で縁辺は黒色。尾鰭は基部は黄色で後部は黒色。
分 布：
フロリダ，バーミューダ島からバハマ諸島をへてブラジルまでの浅海。
備 考：
本種は同属の他種から側線より上方の鱗が下方の鱗より大きく，頭部に多数の青色線があるので区別できる。

Distinctive characters：
Body elongate and compressed. Body depth 2.5 in SL. Posterior edge of upper jaw reaching to below anterior margin of eye. Two pores and a median groove on chin. Preopercle finely serrated. Soft portions of dorsal and anal fins scaled to their margins. Scales above lateral line larger than those below. Scales below lateral line arranged oblique to body axis. Caudal fin forked. Body silver-white; edge of each scale yellowish brown; head yellowish brown with many irregular blue stripes; spiny dorsal, pectoral and pelvic fins pale yellow; soft dorsal, and anal fins yellow with narrow blackedge; caudal fin yellow basally and blackish posteriorly.
Distribution：
Florida, Bermuda through Bahamas to Brazil.
Remarks：
This species is distinguishable from all other species of Haemulon fishes by the larger scales above lateral line and irregular blue stripes on head.
