特 徴：
体は側扁し，体高は高い。体長は体高の2.3倍。上顎の後端は眼の前縁下に達する。下顎下面に1対の小孔と1縦溝がある。前鰓蓋骨の縁辺部は細かい鋸歯状となるが，隅角部に肥大した棘はない。唇は肥厚する。歯は円錐状で外側の歯は内側の歯より大きい。眼はやや大きく，頭長は眼径の4.3倍。背鰭と臀鰭の軟条部の基部は鱗を被る。尾鰭は湾入する。体の地色は銀灰色で，各鱗の中央に1暗色点がある。体の前方は暗灰色。棘条背鰭は灰色で，他の鰭はすべて暗灰色。
分 布：
フロリダからバハマ諸島をへてブラジルまでの浅海。
備 考：
本属は他のイサキ科魚類から唇が肥厚しているので容易に区別できる。本種は同属のA. virginicusから頭部に暗色帯がないので区別できる。

Distinctive characters：
Body deep and compressed. Body depth 2.3 in SL. Posterior edge of upper jaw reaching to below anterior margin of eye. Two pores and a median groove on chin. Preopercle finely serrated with no enlarged spines on lower posterior angle. Lips thick. Teeth on both jaws conical, the outer series enlarged. Eye moderately large, its diameter 4.3 in head length. Basal parts of soft dorsal and anal fins covered with scales. Caudal fin emarginate. Body dark silver; each scale of body with a dark central spot; anterior part of body much darker than the posterior; spiny dorsal fin gray, other fins dusky.
Distribution：
From Florida through Bahamas to Brazil.
Remarks：
This species is distinguishable from A. virginicus by no dark bands on the anterior part of the body.
