Body deep and compreessed, body depth 2.0〜2.1 in SL. Posterior edge of upper jaw reaching to below anterior margin of eye. Two pores and a median groove on chin. Preopercle finely serrated. Basal parts of soft dorsal and anal fins covered with scales. Caudal fin deeply emarginate. Body silver with a blue cast; a diagonal black band from corner of mouth through eye to nape, another black band passing from origin of first dorsal spine to base of pectoral fin; 7〜8 longitudinal yellow stripes running on side of body; edges of spiny dorsal and caudal fins black, other fins yellow.
Distribution:
Shallow waters along the coasts from Florida through Bahamas to Brazil.
Remarks:
This species is easily separable from the congener, A. surinamensis, by having 2 black bands on the anterior part of the body.
