Height 100 mm, breadth 55 mm. Shell thick and solid, short fusiform. Shell with spaced, strong spiral ribs that become nodulous where overriding axial ribs. Axial ribs become obsolete abapically except dorsal side of body whorl. Varix comes into appearance from the penultimate whorl. Coloration yellowish brown except on varix where alternate white and dark brown. Inter-rib groove deepens just in front of varix. Aperture oval, with thickened outer lip due to the last varix. Inside the outer lip present 7 denticles. Reddish brown callus deposited on the inner to columellar lips carrying many ridges. Siphonal canal moderately long and feebly twisted.
Distribution:
North Carolina to Texas and Bermuda. Off Suriname to Brazil.
Remarks:
This species is hardly separable from the Western Pacific C. (M.) echo and some other species called differently by locality.
