Height 38 mm, breadth 18 mm. Shell thick, solid, fusiform. Protoconch large, elevated. Teleconch with varices at every 240° and with 5 axial riblets between adjoining varices. Axial riblets cut by spiral grooves forming knobs, of which the dorsal ones on the body whorl prominent. Shell white with brownish grooves, and brighter on varices. Aperture narrow. Outer lip thickened because of the last varix, white inside, with 7 denticles. Columellar lip with 7-8 folds. Anterior canal moderately long, slightly curved backwards.
Distribution:
North Carolina to Florida, Caribbean Sea and off Suriname.
Remarks:
Western Pacific species, C. munda, is much alike the present species but lacks of color banding. C. pileare has reddish callus on the columellar lip.
