Closely related to H. pudibundus (Herbst), but the carapace is much more strongly vaulted, with much pronounced eight rows of granules. A triangular tooth made at junction of antero-and posterolateral borders stronger, distance between the teeth of both sides forming the greatest breadth of carapace. First and second posterolateral teeth well marked and triangular, and the angle near the posterior border of carapace distinctly tuberculated. Rows of granules on outer surface of palm much more strongly impressed than in the congener.
Distribution:
Type locality is the north of Isle du Salut, French Guiana (5°50.5′ N, 53°10′ W), 27 m deep.
Remarks:
Reddish brown bands of the ambulatory legs are similar to those of H. pudibundus, but no scattered blotches are seen on the dorsal surface of carapace
