Carapace weakly convex and subcircular, tapering rapidly posteriorly; surface punctate and uneven, with five longitudinal rows of low protuberances; outermost row short and composed of three prominences; second row with some prominences, running from just behind external orbital angle to posterolateral spine which is curved obliquely outward and upward; a short intercalated row at each protogastric region behind orbit; median row long and most of protuberances continuous. Front narrow, with three lobes. Merus of cheliped armed with a small tubercle and an extremely long one at distal lower end; outer surface of palm with several tubercles roughly in a row from a tooth at proximal part of palm; a sharp ridge from proximal tooth to base of immovable finger, being cut into four conical teeth. Tubercles of both fingers of right chela well developed. Ambulatory legs long.

West Atlantic from Massachusetts through the West Indies to Brazil, 80-375 m deep.
Remarks:
The stridulating organ made by a subhepatic ridge with a row of 7 or 8 widely spaced short ridges and a transverse ridge on inner surface of palm with about 45 oblique, closely spaced striae is not different in both sexes
