Characteristic in having long rostrum with five-toothed crest at its base, and long antennae and posterior two pairs of pereiopods. Carapace glabrous, with a distinct oblique groove from anterolateral angle to upper part of posterior border; orbito-antennal groove distinct and extending to base of small hepatic spine and then to hepatic groove which is an anterior part of oblique groove mentioned above; a distinct antennal spine; a longitudinal suture from orbito-antennal groove to median part of carapace. Rostrum long, curving obliquely upward at its basal one-third; a strong crest with five teeth at level of orbit, being followed by a small gastric spine and an obtuse, but distinct dorsal carina of carapace. Fourth to sixth abdominal segments carinated above, with a small terminal tooth on each segment. Telson tapering to an acute tip.
Distribution:
West Atlantic from North Carolina through the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea to southern Brazil, 1-70 m deep.
