Carapace and abdomen with dense short hairs, except for branchial region where is sparsely pubescent; cervical, hepatic and orbito-antennal grooves distinct; hepatic and antennal spines as usual; a longitudinal suture from bottom of orbit to median part of carapace, and a short transverse suture from posterior one-third of lower border of carapace. Rostrum with seven to nine teeth on upper margin, usually curving weakly upward and making a rather slender appearance; a shallow constriction in front of epigastric tooth; dorsal median carina behind epigastric tooth distinct and reaching to posterior end of carapace. Abdomen carinated dorsally from posterior half of third segment to sixth segment. Thelycum weakly concave at anterior border of median process and virtually straight at anterior borders of lateral plates.
Distribution:
West Atlantic from the Bermudas and the Gulf of Mexico through the Caribbean Sea to Brazil, 18-71 m deep.
Remarks:
This species is very close to the roughneck shrimp, T. constrictus (Stimpson), but distinguished from it by the different color, having the shorter exopod of the fifth pereiopod, and different shape of petasma and thelycum.
