(Species):Serrated rostral exsertion extending beyond upper lip, without long spine directing backwardly at its posterior end. Second and 3rd infraorbital bones without spines. Preocular spine single. No supraocular spine. A blunt triangular projection present on postocular region. Preopercular spine without supplemintal small spine at its base. Median pectoral rays longer than upper and lower rays. Length of pectoral fin 53〜56% of SL. Scaly area on thorax extending forwardly beyond bases of lowermost pectoral rays. A dark spot present between 4th and 5th dorsal spines. No fleshy flap on dorsal region of eye.
Distribution:
From North Carolina, Gulf of Mexico to Suriname.
Remarks:
P. ophryas is distinguishable from this species by pectoral rays (14+3) and fleshy flaps on dorsal region of eye. (Uyeno and Sato)
