Body elliptical and compressed. Preopercular margin serrated; posterior part of opercle with 3 flat spines. Top of head and maxilla scaled. Basihyal toothed. Bases of soft portions of dorsal and anal fins without scales. Second anal spine slightly longer than the third. Both jaws with villiform teeth in band; anterior teeth canine-like. Pelvic fin long, its tip reaching to origin of anal fin. Caudal fin deeply emarginate, upper and lower lobes elongated. Body pale yellowish olive, anterior half of body yellow; fins pale yellow.
Distribution:
From Caribbean Sea to Suriname.
Remarks:
This species is similar to the species of Anthias in some respects, but is easily separated from them by having a toothed basihyal. (Matsuura)
