特 徴：
体は延長し，やや側扁する。前鰓蓋骨後縁の上下に大きな鋸歯がある。主鰓蓋骨後方に扁平な3棘がある。背鰭と臀鰭の軟条部は鱗を被らない。胸鰭は腹鰭より長い。尾鰭は2叉するが，後方へ延長することはない。体の背方は淡褐色で数本の暗褐色黄帯がある。体の腹方は白色。背鰭は淡灰色で黄色縦線が走る。胸鰭，腹鰭，臀鰭は淡灰色。尾鰭は淡灰色で小黄色斑が散在する。
分 布：
ノース・カロライナからウルグアイまで。
備 考：
本種は同属の他種から前鰓蓋骨後縁の上下に大きな鋸歯があるので区別される。 （松浦）
Distinctive characters：
Body elongate and slightly compressed. Two groups of radiating spines on posterior margin of preopercle; 3 flat spines on posterior part of opercle. Bases of soft portions of dorsal and anal fins without scales. Pectoral fin longer than pelvic fin. Caudal fin forked, without projecting rays. Body pale brown dorsally with several vertical dars brown bars, becoming white ventrally; dorsal fin dusky with longitudinal yellow lines; pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins dusky; caudal fin dusky with small yellow blotches.
Distribution：
From North Carolina to Uruguay.
Remarks：
This species is distinguishable from other species of Diplectrum by having the two groups of radiating spines on the preopercular margin. (Matsuura)
