Body elongate and slightly compressed. Two groups of radiating spines on posterior margin of preopercle; 3 flat spines on posterior part of opercle. Bases of soft portions of dorsal and anal fins without scales. Pectoral fin longer than pelvic fin. Caudal fin forked, without projecting rays. Body pale brown dorsally with several vertical dars brown bars, becoming white ventrally; dorsal fin dusky with longitudinal yellow lines; pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins dusky; caudal fin dusky with small yellow blotches.
Distribution:
From North Carolina to Uruguay.
Remarks:
This species is distinguishable from other species of Diplectrum by having the two groups of radiating spines on the preopercular margin. (Matsuura)
