(Family): Mouth slightly oblique, anterior tip of both jaws even position. No scute on whole length of ventral midline, only a large W-shaped scute between pelvic fins. No lateral line. No spine in fins. Pectoral fin abdominal. Pelvic fin about equidistant between pectoral fin base and anal fin origin. (Genus): Pelvic fin inserting just below dorsal fin end. BR 14〜15. Body color dark blue dorsally, silvery white side to ventrally.

Atlantic, Pacific, Indian oceans, Mediterranean. Off Suriname.
Remarks:
Jenkinsia, another genus having a W-shaped scute between pelvic fins in this family, has a pelvic fin inserting below median of dorsal fin. (Shimizu)
