A well developed spine on each dorsal fin; first dorsal spine 3/4 of second dorsal spine. First dorsal smaller than second dorsal, its base length 2/3 of second dorsal base. Rear margin of pectoral fin reaching to first dorsal spine. Subterminal notch present on upper caudal lobe. Length of upper caudal lobe slightly smaller than distance from tip of snout to pectoral origin. Distance from rear end of pelvic base to origin of lower caudal lobe somewhat shorter than distance from axil of pectoral to pelvic origin (81 %). Teeth on jaws dissimilar; upper jaw teeth mostly 3 cusped; lower jaw teeth single cusped and strongly oblique. Dermal denticles truncated and irregularly distributed (Fig.). Black flank marks strong.
Distribution:
Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, and the western Pacific.
Remarks:
The present species is discernible from the other species of the genus in having the truncate dermal denticles. (Uyeno and Sasaki)
