本標本はBigelow and Schroeder(1948),Bass et al.(1976)により記載されたS. blainvilleとよく一致する。Chen et al.(1979)により日本からS. blainvilleとして報告された標本の第1背鰭は高く(垂直高と全長の比が3:4,本標本では1:2),原記載の図も同様な特徴を示すとして和名ヒレタカツノザメが提称されている。ここでは標本を暫定的にS. blainvilleと同定するが,別種の可能性があるので新和名を与える。 (上野・佐々木)
Distinctive characters:
A well developed spine on each dorsal fin and same in size. First dorsal spine located above the inner margin of pectoral. Subterminal notch absent on upper caudal lobe. Rear margin of pectoral only slightly concave and inner corner never acutely pointed. Distance from snout tip to inner end of nostril 1.2 times of distance from inner end of nostril to anteriormost point of upper labial fold. Nasal flap bifolded. Teeth similar on jaws; cusps strongly oblique toward corner of mouth. Dermal denticles broad and ending posteriorly in 3 points.
Distribution:
Temperate to tropical waters of the world.
Remarks:
The present specimens agree with S. blainville of Bigelow and Schroeder (1948) and Bass et al. (1976). Chen et al. (1979) described S. blainville from Japan and stated that the species best characterized by high first dorsal fin (height more than 3/4 of its total length). The height of the present specimens only half of its total length. (Uyeno and Sasaki)
