Carapace narrow like C. ruber (Lamarck); dorsal surface with two transverse linear ridges on median and posterior parts of gastric region, the former of which is much larger and interrupted medially; an usual ridge running from last anterolateral tooth, a transverse one on cardiac region, and two short oblique ridges on inner part of each branchial region; posterior border of carapace also ridged. Front with four subequal, stout lobular teeth; inner pair directed forward and rounded at their apexes, but outer pair subtruncated and more or less directed obliquely outward. Anterolateral border with nine large and small strong teeth which are arranged alternately from large external orbital tooth. Cheliped with four spines on anterior margin of merus, one each on outer surface and inner angle of carpus, and one each on basal part of outer surface and upper margin of palm. No spine or spinule on posterior and distal margins of natatory merus.

West Atlantic from Florida through the West Indies to Brazil, low tial zone to 70 m deep.
