(Genus):Body fusiform. Two small keels and a large median keel between them on each side of caudal peduncle. The fleshy process between pelvic fins single and large. Two dorsal fins widely separated, the space between them longer than length of pectoral fin. Nine to 11 spines in first dorsal fin. Anterior body scales enlarged and modified to form a corselet. Body naked posterior to the corselet except along lateral line. Teeth on jaws minute, conical. (Species):Posterior end of pectoral fin extending beyond vertical from anterior margin of scaleless area above lateral line.
Distribution:
Warm warters of Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic oceans, and Mediterranean Sea. Type locality-On the northern coast of Papua New Guinea.
Remarks:
