(Family):Upper jaw not protractile. Teeth in jaws strong, moderate or weak; no fangs. Dorsal and anal fins with fin-lets. At least 2 small keels on each side of caudal peduncle. Pelvic fin not reduced, rays T, 5. Anal fin without detached spine. (Genus):Two dorsal fins widely separated. A small fleshy process between pelvic fins. No median keel on each side of caudal peduncle. Body completely covered with scales; a corselet of scales absent. Adipose eyelid present. Vomer and palatine with teeth. (Species):The first dorsal with 8〜10 spines. Scales behind head and around pectoral fins larger and more conspicuous than those covering rest of body.
Distribution:
Warm waters of three major oceans. type locality-Japan.
Remarks:
The genus includes three species (Matsui, 1967). (Fujii)
